Everybody's teeth are different! Most people, despite their best efforts need help to retain their teeth and keep a healthy smile.

The best way to look after your teeth is to brush regularly, watch your diet and keep your gums healthy. Gum disease is the main cause of tooth loss.

However, when you do need to have some work done on your teeth there are now many different options you can choose.

Amalgam Fillings

Amalgam is the traditional filling material used for many years. There are advantages and disadvantages to this material which need to be discussed with your dentist.

White fillings

This filling material gives a result very similar to your existing teeth. The advantages and disadvantages of a white filling will need to be discussed for each tooth.

Inlays

Mainly used on the back molars. An inlay is made in the dental laboratory out of yellow gold, white gold or composite (tooth coloured) or porcelain. They are probably the best way of restoring teeth towards the back of the mouth.

Crowns

Crowns (or caps) give you back your original smile with natural looking strong teeth. They can be made in porcelain. The crown encases a tooth and is cemented in place. They are used to replace broken or decayed teeth.
